Sell It Like Serhant
Yeah. You read that right. 80,000 competitors in New York alone. 80,000.
“I am shameless, I have to be. There are eighty thousand real estate agents in New York City alone, and only about eleven thousand five hundred actually make a sale in a given year on average.” – Ryan
That’s downright insane for anyone, yet Ryan continues to be number one in the market for what he achieves, being able to wade through the sea of competition and create opportunities with his second-to-none branding style that sets him apart from the rest as a first choice for buying and selling property.
Ryan’s methods, like anything successful, are multidimensional in how they work. Ryan has built a personal brand through his appearances on the reality show Million Dollar Listing New York, which he has continued to star in since it began in 2012.
But Ryan doesn’t let his television fame be his only outlet, figuring out early on that being available on as many platforms as possible was going to be the key to his long term success and multi-generational appeal.
“I used to have people stopping me in the street because of Million Dollar Listing, now, being able to post a video on Youtube or Instagram gets me in front of millions of people, more people than even a globally syndicated tv show could only dream of. Now when I get stopped in the street, it’s not because people go “Hey it’s that guy from TV” it’s “You’re that guy from that video I watched on the internet.” – Ryan
In his own words, Ryan is everywhere, and he’s relentless in his ability to be louder than anyone else in his market to make sure he doesn’t become part of the giant amorphous blob of competitors that define the New York housing market.
Every platform and every minute of the day, Ryan is keeping the content flowing, whether that’s showing the luxury properties he represents or his own personal vlog that gets updated regularly or keeping followers updated on his social media platforms. Ryan is not afraid to keep finding new ways to push his message out there, because the results are clear for all to see.
“I had a client once whose daughter saw one of my videos and showed her the property. That was a $15 million dollar sale. For a client who wasn’t actually looking to buy until her daughter saw my video showcasing the property on Youtube.” – Ryan
Million Dollar Team Building
Ryan also takes a great deal of time to point out the value of his team and how he makes those he employs operate differently from the rest.
In Ryan’s business, his agents and employees are invested in the vision and are incorporated into the business in a far more intimate way than his competitors.
Ryan’s philosophy is based around “unwavering confidence” and it carries down throughout his agency. Largely because that’s how Ryan believes he has to operate. In a sales environment as insane as the one he operates in, any chink in the armour of your confidence can be a weapon that can compromise your ability to sell later on. As a result, Ryan’s “unwavering confidence” is key to being able to get clients on board with creative ideas for selling properties.
“I use the analogy of; when you’re with a doctor and they say you need surgery to save your life, right from the get-go, you trust that doctor and say ‘go for it’ once they explain the complexity of the surgery. That doctor has to have complete confidence, and usually does, when he explains what he’s doing to save your fucking life. And that’s the attitude I have to take as well, to have complete confidence because I know what I’m doing.” – Ryan
